Samuel Augustus Mitchell, c.1860, Texas.    Each county individually hand colored and measuring about 11 by 13 1/2  inches.   Decorative floral border, surrounds a handsome map showing counties, rivers, mountains, cities, and rail.   The western part of Texas still has three territories.  Mitchell's maps from this series are some of the more attractive maps from this period.  This map is enhanced with a decorative "garland" of flowers which provides a handsome border, making this an especially attractive map.  Different editions of the identical map may have a slightly different decorative border to the one pictured.   It includes a nice inset of Galveston Bay and Vicinity. This is a very attractive map of Texas.  $495

A county (each differently colored) map of Texas.  Provides very detailed information of cities, towns, lakes, rivers and other topography.   No road system is shown as yet.  The rail system evidences its importance.     Has an inset of New Mexico and Oklahoma.  An excellent early portrayal of the area.   The technology used  to develop this map was so advanced that it made all similar maps obsolete.   $45

(Because the size of the scanner is slightly smaller than the map, some of the border does not appear in the photograph)
