A. J. Johnson, Minnesota & Dakota, 1865. Colored, about 12 1/2 by 16 inches. This is a wonderful, handsomely colored county map of Minnesota & Dakota. This map shows the territory/states and there counties just as they were just forming. Dakota Territory lacks almost any sign of settlement except on the very edge where it borders Minnesota. One of the earliest, and consequently important, map of the Dakota Territory showing the first county forming in the south. There are many cities and towns and counties within Minnesota. Johnson's maps from this series are particularly handsome because they include a handsome decorative border.
