   J. H. Colton & Co. 1855, Indiana. Each county differently hand colored.  About 15 1/2 by 13 inches. A county and township map of the state.  Very well detailed showing cities, towns, mountains, rivers, roads, tracks, rails and other early information. An excellent, early portrayal of the area. Handsome with a decorative border.  Colton was one of the leading map American makers of the mid 1800's. Colton's maps are particularly handsome.      The excellence and popularity of Colton's work was such that the maps were widely used and each edition contained the most "contemporary" knowledge available at that time.  Thus, these maps are wonderful historical markers for events that were taking place at that time. $195  Seldom available, so we recommend that you place your name on the waiting list for this map.

Samuel Augustus Mitchell, c.1860, Ohio & Indiana. Colored, about 11 1/2 by 14 inches, Detailed county map showing landforms, cities, towns, rails including plans of unfinished rails. Mitchell's maps from this series are some of the more attractive maps from this period, this map is enhanced with a decorative "garland" of flowers which provides a handsome border, making this an especially attractive map.  Different editions of the identical map may have a slightly different decorative border to the one pictured.   Hand colored lithograph.   $125


A. J. Johnson, 1864, Indiana. Full hand color, about 23 by 17  inches.  A portrayal of Indiana  during the civil war.  A detailed county map with each township differently colored, showing landforms, cities and towns, rail and stage routes. The map is handsome with decorative border.  Different editions had slightly different decorative borders.  Johnson produced a series of large Family Atlases between 1860 and 1867 that were extremely well received by the American family at that time. $125

    George Cram, 1884-1899, Indiana. Printed color, about 13 by 9 inches. Detailed map of Indiana showing landforms, rail lines, towns, cities, counties, as well as parts of Ohio and Illinois.   Family atlases by Cram were very popular with the American family towards the close of the 1800's.  Different editions have slightly different colors. Later editions are in full color.  $25

Rand McNally, 1895-1911, Indiana. Printed color, about 12 1/2 by 9 1/4 inches. A detailed map depicting landforms, counties, rail road lines, cities and towns.   No road system is shown as yet.  The extensive rail system evidences its importance.   Also includes a table on the left and right of the map of land area, counties and chief cities.  The technology used in developing these maps was so advanced that they made obsolete all similar maps. $25

    Matthew Northrup's Century Atlas, c.1900, Indiana. Printed color, about 15 by 10 1/2 inches. A very fine "modern" looking map with a "piano key" border. The map depicts landforms, including contours showing elevations above sea level. Includes counties, rail lines, roads, cities and towns. $45

 

 

 (The scanner has distorted the color by deepening it. The brown line at center is due to joining two scans together.)


Dodd Meade and Company, c. 1903, Indiana. Printed color, about 8 1/4 by 10 1/4 inches. A very "modern" looking map with excellent detail. The map depicts landforms and includes counties, rail lines, cities and towns. $15

Indianapolis, 1895, George Cram. Printed Color, about 13 by 10 1/4 inches. A city "grid" street plan that extends to the city limits, naming and locating streets, important buildings, parks, rails, stockyards, the river, horse roads, steam roads etc. An impressive early map by a mapmaker whose atlases were one of the earliest family atlases in general use in the USA at that time. $30
