Joseph Hutchins Colton, 1855, Illinois. Colored, about 16 by 13 inches. This is a wonderful, handsomely colored county map of Illinois with a large inset of the city of Chicago and Vicinity. Colton's maps from this series are particularly handsome because they include an attractive decorative border. The excellence and popularity of Colton's work was such that the maps were widely used and each edition contained the most "contemporary" knowledge available at that time. Thus, these maps are wonderful historical markers for events that were taking place at that time. $175 Seldom available, so we recommend that you place your name on the waiting list for this map.

Detailed early county (each differently colored) map from the civil war era showing landforms, early settlements and towns, rail and stage routes. Includes a decorative border. Different editions of the identical map may have a slightly different decorative border to the one pictured. The earlier editions also include a vignette on the map, as shown. Samuel Augustus Mitchell, 1864, Illinois. Colored, about 13 1/2 by 10 3/4 inches. A detailed map depicting landforms, counties, rail road lines, cities and towns. Also includes a large inset of the city of Chicago and a decorative "flower" border surrounding the map. Mitchell's maps from this series are some of the more attractive maps from this period, this map is enhanced with a decorative "garland" of flowers which provides a handsome border, making this an especially attractive map. Different editions of the identical map may have a slightly different decorative border to the one pictured. $125
George Cram, c.1884-1899, Illinois. Printed color, about 12 1/2 by 9 1/4 inches. This map was printed in both outline and full color. A detailed map depicting landforms, counties, rail road lines, cities and towns. Cram atlases were very popular with American families towards the end of the 1800's. $25

land area, counties and chief cities. No road system is shown as yet.
The extensive rail system evidences its importance. The technology used in developing these maps
was so advanced that all other similar maps were made obsolete. $25

The map depicts landforms, including contours showing elevations above sea level. Includes counties, rail lines, roads, cities and towns. Also includes inset of Chicago and vicinity.$45
