Johnson, c. 1864, Florida.  Hand colored map measuring 17.5 x 13.5 inches. There is an inset of the Florida Keys. All American Indian regions and reservations are noted. This map is much sought after as it gives a really wonderful portrayal of Florida.  Note the exceptionally fine border and rich vivid coloration. Political boundaries as well as major rivers, territories, and counties are carefully labeled. Also included are major roads, trade routes, and proposed railroads. Further, all notable mountains, swamps, passes, and even important trading posts are labeled. Different editions have a slightly different decorative border.   $195

The map shown is in printed color, each county separately colored.   It measures about 9 3/4 by 12 1/4 inches and is a detailed county map depicting landforms, counties, rail road lines, cities and towns.  Maps such as these came from the first widely used atlases published for family use in America.  Different editions are slightly differently colored.  $25

Thumb, Rand McNally, Florida.jpg (19526 bytes)

Rand McNally,1895-1911, Florida. Printed color, each county separately colored, about 12 1/2 by 9 1/4 inches. A detailed map depicting landforms, counties, rail road lines, cities and towns.   No road system is shown as yet.  The extensive rail system evidences its importance.    Also includes a table (not shown in picture) on the top and bottom of the map of counties and chief cities.  The technology used to develop these maps was so advanced that they at once made all competitors maps obsolete.  $25

(Because the size of the scanner is slightly smaller than the map, some of the border does not appear in the photograph)
