Johnson,1861-1862, Johnson's New Military Map of the United StatesOriginal hand color and measuring about 23 3/4 by 17 1/4 inches.  An attractive map showing the USA divided into Military Departments by the Union during the Civil War.  The map includes numerous insets of key southern coastal ports.  The later edition shows a slightly different configuration of territories to reflect the reality of the period.   We seldom have this map in stock so we recommend you place your name on the waiting list for it.  $495

Johnson, 1863-1867, United States. Fully hand colored  map, about 16 3/4 by 23 inches. Shows the different States and Territories, each individually colored.  Dakota is not yet partitioned and Oklahoma as Indian Territory.  West Virginia is newly formed.  Each edition shows a slightly different configuration of territories to reflect the reality of the period.  This civil war era map shows the extensive development and infra structure already in place east of the Mississippi.  West of it, a single rail line (Pacific R.R.) extends across from coast to coast. The many planned rail routes and the extension to current lines across the west are shown.  The mode  of travel in the great west is by wagon and many wagon routes are located.  The Pony express route is prominent.  Freemont's trail through Utah, Nevada and California is shown.  Many Indian Nations are named and located.  Shows many settlements, an extensive number of forts, towns, cities and geographical information.  Wonderful pioneer America!  Handsome with a decorative border.  Different editions have slightly different decorative borders.  $225


Asher and Adams, 1872, Geological Map, United States and Territories. Colored about 16 by 23 inches.   A geological and rail map of the United States showing each State and Territory and primarily, the towns and settlements along the rail lines, as well as many forts, especially in the west.   The map shows an extensive proposal for extending current lines and the plans for many new lines.  The prime purpose of the map is to show the Geological features.   Seven different geological strata are identified by color on the map, including volcanic centers. An index table is also included.  A light stain covers the lower part of the map.  $125


Charles Hitchcock, 1876, Gray's Geological Map of the United States Hand color about 16 1/4 by 26 3/4 inches.   A geological map of the United States showing each State and Territory.  Shows very few major cities (usually just the capitols).    Nine different geological strata are identified by hand color on the map. An index table is also included.  A handsome map with a decorative surround similar to Mitchell's maps.  The map is canvas backed.  $125

Colored about 21 by 13 inches.   Shows the different States and Territories, each individually colored.  Dakota is not yet partitioned and Oklahoma as Indian Territory.  West Virginia is newly formed. Each edition shows a slightly different configuration of territories to reflect the reality of the period.  This post civil war era map (pictured) shows the extensive development and infra structure already in place east of the Mississippi.  West of it, few rail lines extend to the west coast. Several planned rail routes and the extension to current lines across the west are shown.   The mode  of travel in the great west is by wagon and many wagon routes are located. Indian Nations are named and located.  Shows many settlements, an extensive number of forts, towns, cities and geographical information.   Handsome with a decorative border. Includes an inset of the Island of Newfoundland.     Mitchell's maps are some of the more attractive maps from this period, this map is enhanced with a decorative "garland" of flowers which provides a handsome border, making this an especially attractive map.   Different editions have slightly different decorative borders.  $225

United States, c.1892, By George Cram printed color, about 11 1/2 by 18 inches.  Shows all of the continental United States, with each state colored separately.  Dakota is not yet partitioned and Oklahoma is still Indian territory.  The very extensive rail system is very apparent.  Good detail of landforms, towns and cities.  With the advent of unified time zones this map proudly shows the divisions of the time zones in the United States. $35

Rand McNally & Co., c. 1900, United States. Full color, about 9 1/2 by 12 1/2. Shows all of the continental United States, with each state colored separately.  All territories have now joined the Union. The very extensive rail system is very apparent.  Good detail of landforms, towns and cities.  The technology used to develop this map was so advanced that it made all similar maps obsolete.  $25

Matthew Northrup's Century Atlas, 1897, The United States
(Shows Indian Reservations)  Printed color, about 10 1/2 by 15 inches. A small "modern" looking map which is one of very few published that show Native American Indian reservations, and other Gov. lands, with excellent detail. Includes roads and towns.  Includes an inset of Alaska.   $45
