Abraham Ortelius, 1579, Hispaniae, Novae Sivae Magnae, Recens et Vera Descriptio. Very handsomely hand colored, about 13 3/4 by 19 3/4 inches. A wonderful early map of Mexico, extending down to include all but the lower 3rd of present day Mexico. This is a map of the world from the first recognized atlas to be sold commercially to the general public. It is attractively hand colored. The map is nicely decorative and shows many interesting features. This is a very rare map that will be the treasure of any collection. About 5875 were printed, of which few remain. Good detail of cities, towns, and landforms. Includes three large strap-work cartouches, and two ships as part of the decorations. Includes a decorative compass. A city plan of Vera Cruz, showing detail such as the city walls and individual important buildings, is on the map together with topographical features. A numbered key provides detail about each building i.e, cathedral, palace, etc. A handsome map with a "piano key" border. Nice detail. $95

Includes a compass. A city plan of Vera Cruz is on the map together with topographical features. The map extends to Pta De Anton Lizardo. A handsome map. Nice detail. $95

Johnson, c.1864, Mexico. Hand color, each province differently colored, about 12 1/4 by 15 1/4 inches. A detailed provincial map with an inset of the Territory and Isthmus of Tehuantepec. Includes a decorative border. Different editions may have a slightly different decorative border. A nice map showing topographical features, towns and cities. $75
Samuel Augustus Mitchell, c.1864. Mexico, Central America & the West Indies.. Handsome in full color, about 13 by 21 inches. This is a very handsome map of the lower half of the United States, the Entire Central America and the West Indies. The map shows rivers, mountains, cities, and railway lines. The map also includes a large inset of the island of Cuba. Mitchell's maps from this series are some of the more attractive maps from this period, this map is enhanced with a decorative "garland" of flowers which provides a handsome border, making this an especially attractive map. Different editions may have a slightly different border. $195
Malte Brun, 1865, Mexico. Colored, about 8 1/2 by 12 inches. Detailed map of Mexico, showing rails, cities, towns and landforms. Mexico is uniformly colored in blue. The only other colored area is present day Belize, colored in a light pink, and named "Colonie Anglaise" (English Colony). $45
