  Abraham Ortelius, 1590. Thraviae Veteris Typvs. Uncolored, about 14 by 18 1/2 inches.  This is a delightful map of the Bosphorus region and shows the ancient Byzantine (Constantinople).  The map is decorated with three large cartouches, one being a large handsome title cartouche.   The map has great detail mountains, rivers, towns and cities, also has a stippled ocean.  $900

    Abraham Ortelius, 1612, Graeciae Vniversae Secundvm Hodiernvm. Handsome color, about 12 1/4 by 19 3/4 inches.  A delightful map of "ancient" Greece. Decorated with a very large title cartouche and a set of scales.  Has great detail mountains, rivers, towns and cities, also has a stippled ocean with a ship on it.  Ortelius' genius is very apparent in this stunning map!  This map is based on Jacob Gastaldi 1560 and 1569 earlier maps.  Condition is very good and will be handsome when framed.   $1200

Abraham Ortelius, 1612, Creta. Handsome color, about 13 1/4 by 19 1/4 inches.  An attractive map showing Corsica, the islands of Corcyra, Ithaca, Cephalenia, Zacynthus and Lothoa,  Sardinia in the upper third of the plate and Crete in the lower two thirds of the map.  The map has nice detail of mountains, rivers, towns and cities.  The map is in excellent condition. $1100

Abraham Ortelius, c. 1600, Graecia Sophiani. Fully and very handsomely hand colored, about 13 3/4  by 19 1/2 inches. This is a beautiful depiction of ancient Greece.  It has a very attractive title cartouche in the shape of a Grecian temple in the bottom left-hand corner and a large scale bordered by bold strap-work in the bottom right-hand corner.  Oceans, rivers, lakes, cities, important towns, and landforms are carefully detailed on the map. This map is based on the a 1540 map drawn by Nikolaus Sophianos.  Bertius bought a number of sheets and included the map in his historical 1619 atlas Theatrum Geographiae Veteris. Ortelius is recognized as a genius in the field of cartography and this map reflects his ability.  $1300

Uncolored, about 6 by 6 3/4 on a page with text about 12 3/4 by 8 1/4 inches.  A copper plate engraving on rag paper.  A map of Morea, handsomely engraved with a small strap-work title cartouche and a scale at lower left. Good town and city detail as well as landforms. $85

 Guillaume De Lisle published by Covens & Mortier, 1757, Graeciae. Original outline color, and measuring about 20 by 13 3/4 inches.  The map shows Greece, Archipelago with Crete, and the most western part of Turkey. A handsome map with the title and a set of scales at lower left.  Includes a small compass.  Very detailed.  $600

(The map does not have any blue hue to it.  It is uniformly and evenly lightly toned.)

Matthew Northrup's Century Atlas, (1897) reissued 1902, Greece. Printed color, about 10 1/2 by 15 inches. A very fine "modern" looking map with a "piano key" border. The map depicts landforms, including contours showing elevations above sea level. Includes counties, rail lines, roads, cities and towns. Also includes an inset of Crete. $45
