Abraham Ortelius, 1574, Germania. Colored, about 14 1/2 by 19 3/4. A classic map of "modern" Germany with excellent detail. Includes three decorative strap-work cartouches, a decorative border, and a stipled sea with a very large ship. Very handsome. Ortelius is recognized as a genius in the field of cartography and this map reflects his ability. About 7300 were printed of which it is estimated that only about 200 to 300 of this edition survive. $1,300
Abraham Ortelius, 1579, Saxoniae, Misniae, Thvringiae, Nova Exactissimaq Desccriptio. Original color, about 13 by 19 1/2 inches. A map which extends frpm the border of Silesia and Bohemia to the Weser river and encompasses Thuringa, the lower half of Saxony and Lusatia in excellent detail. Includes a decorative strap-work cartouche, a scale cartouche on a ribbon and a decorative border. Very handsome. Very few remain. $350

Abraham Ortelius, 1580, Frisia Orientalis. Later hand color, about 14 3/4 by 19 1/2. A map detailing the north east section of upper Westphalia (Niederachsen), Germany (East Friesland). Includes a decorative strap-work cartouche, an inset of Emden and vicinity and a couple in traditional dress. Very handsome. There are estimated to be only 144 loose copies of this map in circulation. The glare on the image is due to the protective cover over the map. $850

A map of central Saxony with Mansfeld at center and showing the area around Mansfeld extending to Bernburg in the north and Freyburg in the south, which is on the Thuringa border, in excellent detail. This is a wonderful map of an important region of Germany. It will be outstanding when framed. $250

Nicolas Sanson, 1689, Partie Occidentale du Temporale de L'Archevese et Eslecto. rat de Treves. Outline color, about 22 by 17 inches. A larger scale map of the Eastern part of Treves area with the Moselle river at lower right. Bruggen is at the top of the map and Millingen is at the bottom. A large decorative title cartouche at top center, and a scale at lower left. Good detail including cities, towns, forests and landforms. Some staining at top right just entering the neat line. $250~

Emanuel Bowen, 1747, North East Germany. Uncolored, measuring about 13 1/2 by 16 1/2 inches. This is an attractive map of the north eastern region of Germany. The map includes the Baltic Sea to the north, Prussia, Poland, and Hungary to the east, part of Bohemia to the south and lower Saxony to the west. There is a beautifully elaborate title cartouche with a crest of arms. The map is wonderfully detailed and will be very nice when framed. $150
