Abraham Ortelius, c.1590, Angliae... Beautifully hand colored and measuring about 15 by 18 1/2 inches. This is a, very early, detailed map foundation map of England with two very attractive strap work cartouches and several sailing ships. Cities, towns, mountains, rivers, and lakes are nicely detailed. The eastern coast of Ireland, southern Scotland and just the tip of north western France are included. $2500
Henricus Hondius, c.1606, Weftmorlandia Lancaitria, Ceftria, Caernarvan, Denbigh, Flint, Merionidh, Montgomery, Salopia, cum Infulis, Mania et An glefry. Beautifully hand colored and measuring about 14 1/2 by 18 inches. This map is originally from the Mercators “Atlas Part III:Duisburg” and reprinted by Henricus Hondius in the Mercator/Hondius atlas ca 1606.. The map is of the North West of England and Wales and includes the counties of Lancaster, Darby, Westmorland, Carnarvonshire, Denbigh, Flintshire as well as the Isle of Man. The map has an elegant cartouche, handsome calligraphy and a sailing ship off the coast of the Isle of Man. This map is very attractive and will be outstanding when framed. $425
Mercator/Hondius, c.1635, Cornvbia, Devonia, Somersetvs, Dorsetstria, Wiltonia, Glocestria, Monvmetha, Clamorga, Caermarda, Penbrok, Cardigan, Radnor, Breknoke, Herefordia, et Wignornia. Uncolored and measuring about 14 1/4 by 18 i1/2 nches. This map is originally from the Mercators atlas and reprinted by Henricus Hondius in the Mercator/Hondius atlas ca 1635. The map is of the south western England and the southern Half of Wales. It includes, Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, Gloucester, Monmouth, Glamorgan, Carmarthens, Radnor, Brecknok, Hereford, Worcester. The map has an elegant cartouche elegant calligraphy, and a decorative border. $425
John Ogilby, 1675, The Road from York to Tupford. (Road Map). Hand colored, about 13 1/4 by 17 1/4 inches. A map from the first published atlas of English road maps. The map is presented in a series of six strips (scrolls) from left to right, and within each strip, the direction is from bottom to top then top to bottom and so on. They were intended as maps to provide directions for travelers, i.e., for use on a horse drawn coach, but the atlas proved to be to large and unwieldy to handle. Subsequently a miniature version was produced. Only practical details relevant to the road are shown i.e., hills, forests, villages, swamps, etc. This is a very handsome and unusual, decorative map, nicely engraved, with a large decorative title cartouche. $550

Rigobert Bonne, 1781, Royaume D'Angleterre partie Septentrionale. Uncolored, about 9 1/4 by 13 1/2 inches. Extends from Cambridge to the border with Scotland. The map covers the top half of England. A nice early representation showing cities, towns and landforms. $65

S.D.U.K. (Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge), 1830-1853. The following maps have some outline color and are about 12 by 15 1/2 inches. S.D.U.K. was regarded as producing some of the most accurate and highly regarded maps of its time.
Central East England. Includes
Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Warwick, Leicestershire,
Rutlandshire, Northamptonshire, Bedford, Huntingdon, Cambridge, Norfolk and Suffolk. $35

John Rapkin, 1860, England and Wales. Uncolored steel engraving, about 13 1/2 by 10 inches with a highly intricate and decorative surrounding margin. A small vignette is placed in the four corners of the margin and a decorative armorial shield is above the title of the map. This is an attractive detailed map showing rails, cities, towns and landforms. $125
John Dugdale, 1860, English County Maps. Uncolored, about 7 by 9 inches. Very detailed, showing landforms, roads, rails, cities and towns. Each $45

John Tallis, 1860, Channel Islands and City Maps. Outline color, about 9 3/4 by 13 inches except where noted. Tallis maps are some of the best known and one of the most desirable of maps. This is due to the very decorative borders, many vignette views, and the fact that these maps were one of the last that were engraved on steel. Handsome with excellent detail.

George Cram, 1889, London. Printed color, about 12 by 20 inches. A very detailed street plan naming streets, parks and important buildings. Shows the river and the rail lines. Family atlases by Cram were very popular towards the end of the 1800's with the American families. $45
