Abraham Ortelius, 1601, 1609 or 1612 Latin Edition, Britannicarvm Insvlarvm Typus. Colored, about 14 1/4 by 20 inches. A classic, handsome and decorative map of ancient British Isles with north orientated to the east. Based on Mercator's 1564 map of the British isles and improved by Saxton's 1579 map and the writings of the ancient classical writers. Has excellent detail. Includes seven ships and three decorative strap work cartouches. Very handsome. $1600 We usually have more than one available.
Abraham Ortelius, 1612, Angliae, Scotiae Et Hiberniae. Colored, about 13 1/2 by 19 3/4 inches. A wonderfully decorative map of the British Isles with north orientated to the east. It was based on Mercator's 1564 map of the British Isles. The map has excellent detail including two decorative cartouches, a coat of arms, and several sailing vessels. Jansson, 1662, The British Isles. Original hand color and measuring about about 16 3/4 by 21 1/2 inches with additional margins ample for framing. This early map of the British Isles, "Magnae Britanniae et Hiberniae Nova Descriptio" was published in Amsterdam by Johan Jansson. This amazing original map features Great Britain and Ireland as well as the English Royal Coat of Arms, 6 ships surrounding the islands as well as a sea serpent, a compass rose, an ornate title and an ornate inset of the Orkney Islands. It is a beautiful map! Slight loss at centerfold and folds as shown in picture. A very nice map. $525

A wonderfully large, bold, decorative map of the British Isles with an inset of the Shetland Islands. The map has excellent detail including a decorative cartouche and informational set of scales.
