Abraham Ortelius, 1574, Moraviae Qvae Olim, Marcomannorvm Sedes, Corographia. Fully colored, about 14 by 18 1/2 inches. A handsome map of Moravia. The map was based on Paul Fabritius in 1569, reworked by Crato (1570). About 6025 were made of which few remain. A large decorative strap-work cartouche is at upper right. A scale is at lower left. Abraham Ortelius, 1573, Austria Dvcatvs Chorographia. Uncolored, about 13 1/4 by 18 1/4 inches. A handsome map of Austria. It contains a faulty representation of the lakes, and the courses of the rivers Drau, Mur, Gurk, and Lavant are inaccurate. The rivers in the north are much more accurately drawn. The map was based on Wolfgang Lazius' map. About 4250 were made of which few remain. Title is in a decorative circle cartouche at upper left. A scale is at lower left. Very detailed, showing towns and cities, forests and landforms. A very handsome map. $675

About 5725 were made of which few remain. A title strap work cartouche is at top center and another strap work cartouche is at lower left. Another small strap work cartouche is at center right. Very detailed, showing towns and cities, forests and landforms. A handsome map. $800

A detailed historical map covering present day Hungary, Transylvania, Bessarabia, Moldavia, Bulgaria, Servia and Walachia. Includes handsome calligraphy, a decorative border, three decorative strap work cartouches, a "wavy" sea and a ship on it. An excellent early portrayal of the area showing cities, towns, rivers and mountains. Wide margins with two repaired tears not entering the map Handsome! $550

It shows cities, towns, settlements, rivers and mountains. Includes a large decorative title cartouche and another large decorative scalar (scale) cartouche. $300
Laurie and Whittle, 1797, Kingdom of Hungary, Principality of Transylvania, Sclavonia, Croatia, ..... Outline color, about 18 1/2 by 21 inches excluding the wide margins. A larger scale map of Hungary. It shows cities, towns, settlements, rivers and mountains. Includes a large (simple) but decorative title cartouche and a scale cartouche. Very nicely detailed. $275
John Cary, 1811, A New Map of the Circle of Austria. Colored, about 17 3/4 by 20 1/4 inches. A larger scale map of Austria, including Tyrol, Carinthia, Stiria and the Austrian Istria. It shows cities, towns, settlements, rivers and mountains. Includes a title in a "circle" and several scales. John Cary's was dedicated to publishing the most accurate maps possible and for this reason made all previous maps immediately obsolete. If you are looking for a map with excellent detail, this is it. $135

Matthew Northrup's Century Atlas, c.1900, Empire of Austro-Hungary. Printed color, about 14 1/2 by 18 1/2 inches. A very fine "modern" looking map with an inset of Vienna and environs, howing all the countries making up this empire. The map is well detailed, coupled with its larger size makes it very useful for family research. It depicts landforms, rail lines, cities and towns. $75
