Expertly applied modern hand color and measuring about 13 3/4 by 19 3/4.  This decorative map shows the Western Americas, the Pacific Ocean, Eastern China, Japan, New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Magellaen's Ship.  This is the first map solely devoted to the Pacific. Samuel Augustus Mitchell, c. 1860, Map of Oceanica, exhibiting its various Divisions and Island Groups. Colored, about 10 1/2 by 13 1/4 inches. A map of Polynesia including the west part of North America and the east part of Asia. Shows all of Australia and New Zealand and extends up to Alaska. An inset of the Sandwich Islands (present day Hawaiian Islands) is also included.  Mitchell's maps are some of the more attractive maps from this period, this map is enhanced with a decorative "garland" of flowers which provides a handsome border, making this an especially attractive map. Different editions have slightly different decorative borders.  $95
