S. D. U. K. (Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge), 1846, Australia. Some outline color, about 12 1/2 by 15 1/2 inches. These maps are well known for accuracy and immense detail. They represent the best knowledge of the area covered at their time.  Shows four colonies, Colony of West Australia covering all of the west, Colony of North Australia covering only the coastal part of the present day Province, South Australia, the only Colony with a border showing its limits and the Colony of New South Wales covering the whole eastern part. "New Holland" is indicated on the upper left area of the map.  Only the coastal areas are mapped except New South Wales where some inland areas are mapped.  Shows landforms including rivers, cities, towns and settlements and the elemental road/ tracks.  An important map.  $225


Victor Levasseur, 1846, Oceanie. Some outline color, about 12 by 16 1/2 inches. Very handsome with a decorative series of large views completely surrounding the map.  Covers the southern Pacific and Australia is also named "New Holland" (Nouvelle Holland).   Not very detailed but still shows cities, towns, mountains, rivers, and other early information. An excellent portrayal of the area. Handsome with the decorative border. $150
