Abraham Ortelius, 1575, Palestinae. Beautiful hand color and measuring about 13 1/4 by 18 1/2 inches. This is a very attractive map detailing Egypt to the Holy Land showing the Israelite escape from Egypt and the 40 years spent in the Arabian desert. Two very handsome large decorative strap work cartouches plus a sea with "waves", five ships, a sea monster, and a compass complete the decorations. Detail includes the route of the Israelites, cities, towns, rivers, mountains and settlements. The map is based on Stella's 1552 and 1557 map of the region. It is in perfect condition, with full margins and less than 200 remain. $2075 Please note that the glare on the image is due to the protective plastic cover over the map.
Abraham Ortelius, Geographia Sacra, c.1612. The map measures about 14 by 19 and is in later hand color. The map is very decorative and shows a very interesting view of Southern Europe, Northern Africa and the Middle East. There are estimated to be less than 60 copies in circulation. This is a beautiful map that will be very handsome when framed. $1,500
Abraham Ortelius, 1609, Abrahami Peregrinatio et Vita. Expressive later color and measuring about 14 by 18 1/4. This is a beautiful map of the Holy Land surrounded by 22 medallions depicting scenes from Abraham's life. There are less than 60 of these maps of this edition available. This is a very rare map. $4500
Abraham Ortelius, c.1603, Typus Chorographicus. Attractive original color and measuring about 14 by 18 1/4. This is a beautiful map of the Holy Land, Galilee to Beirut. Although there were originally 3700 printed, today there are less than 90 of these maps, of this edition available. This is a very rare map. $1800
Unknown Cartographer, 1725, Jerusalem. Uncolored, about 11 1/2 by 17 1/2 inches. An attractive detailed view of Jerusalem during the siege of Nebucadnezar showing the military activity both inside and out of the city walls. The view is in excellent condition and will be outstanding when framed. $325

William Albert Bachiene, 1750, The Holy Land. Uncolored and measuring about 15 by 18 3/4 inches. This is a nicely detailed map of the Holy land. It includes an dramatic vignette of Jesus on the cross and a handsome title cartouche in the upper right-hand corner. This is a beautiful map in excellent condition that will be outstanding when framed. $395

Homann Heirs, 1752, Palaestina in XII. Tribvs divisa Cvm Terris Adiacentibvs... This map of Palestine and the XII Tribes of Israel was produced by J C Harenberg and published by the Homann firm in the Grosser Atlas (1716-1753) in 1752. Original hand color, about 17 3/4 by 20 3/4 inches. This is a very detailed map of the Holy land. It includes an attractive inset of Palestine and two very decorative cartouches. The map is excellent condition and will be beautiful when framed. $600

John Tallis, 1850, Palestine. Some outline color. About 9 3/4 by 13 inches. One of the handsomest steel engraved portrayals of the Holy Land. Tallis' maps are some of the best known and one of the most desirable of maps. This is due to the very decorative borders, vignette views, and the fact that these maps were one of the last that were engraved on steel. This map is no exception and includes five vignette views which surround the map. Handsome with good detail of cities, towns and landforms. $150

A. J. Johnson, 1863, Palestine Fully hand colored, with each region separately colored. About 12 by 15 1/2. This is a detailed map primary of the region of modern day Israel. The map includes an inset of the city of Jerusalem, as well as a handsome vignette of the city of Damascus. Shows many towns and cities, roads and landforms. This particular edition of Johnson's map is particularly handsome because of its decorative border. Different editions have a slightly different decorative border. The later editions ado not have the vignette of Damascus. $115

Samuel Augustus Mitchell, c.1867, Palestine. Handsome in full color, about 13 by 10 1/2 inches. Lovely "new" map of the Holy land as it was in the 1860's. Showing the area of Palestine (modern day Israel), divided in regions by separate colors. There is also an inset of the City of Jerusalem in the lower left corner. This map also shows, rivers, mountains, cities, and railway lines. Mitchell's maps are some of the more attractive maps from this period, this map is enhanced with a decorative "garland" of flowers which provides a handsome border, making this an especially attractive map. Different editions have a slightly different decorative border. $115

George Cram, Birds Eye view of the Holy Land, 1886. Printed color, about 10 by 12 1/2 inches. A very detailed birds-eye view looking in from the Mediterranean. The cities and towns are very visible as are the mountains and the Sea of Galilee and the Dead Sea. A table locating and naming well over 250 important sites, features etc is included. Family atlases by Cram were very popular towards the end of the 1800's with the American families. $30
