Abraham Ortelius, c.1595, Aegyptvs Antiqva. Colored, about 14 by 20 1/4 inches. A delightful and handsome map of ancient Egypt with north orientated to the right i.e.., west is at top. The map was made by Ortelius on the basis of his own two sheet map of ancient Egypt based on Diodor, Herodotos, Strabo and Plinius which was published in 1565. Quite decorative with a large strap work title cartouche at upper left, another at center and a decorative inset of Alexandria and vicinity Good detail of cities, towns, landforms and forests. $1500
